dinosaurs, vintage cars and cool planes…

2 weeks ago, I participated to the first sketchkon in pasadena organized by the online school sketchbook skool.
imagine 500 hundreds sketchers together during 4 days listening to talks and participating to workshops about hundreds way to fill a sketchbook: urban sketching, lettering, food sketch, live drawing, reportage…
it was super inspiring, a pure dose of creativity meeting lots of old and new friends.
here are some of the sketches I managed to do during the convention, between my "all you can see" workshop, my 2 talks "my life in sketchbooks" and "lost poblenou: a record of change" and my "big head portrait" demo. that was quite a busy week-end.
I would never thank you enough koosje, danny and all the sketchbook skool team for putting together such a nice community!

while in LA, I enjoyed meeting the local urban sketchers such as stef kardos, shiho, virginia or phoebe… we met in zhorian's ranch and downtown:

grooarrr!

urban sketching symposium in chicago
I'm on my way to the 8th international urban sketchers symposium in chicago.
I will teach how to sketch dinosaurs at the field museum, that host "sue": the largest, most complete, best preserved T.rex ever discovered. what a feast!

enola gay

I did not know how to feel in front of "enola gay", the B-29 super fortress that dropped the first atomic weapon on hiroshima the 6th of august 1945. this big bird is lost into the multitude of planes in the museum, a short note telling its mission. I was shocked that most of the visitors were passing in front of it without any consideration - its place would be perhaps more appropriate in a memorial… air & space museum

a spaceship for real!

space shuttle discovery space shuttle discovery
I sketch my first spaceship, it's like a child dream, yeah!
and discovery is not just a spaceship, it's the space shuttle that made the most earth-orbital missions, and spent a total of 365 days in space.
it's big, its skin is a mess of small pieces full of numbers, geometrical signs, textures… it looks like a handmade over scale model.
and how the hell could it fly back to earth, it's as aerodynamic as an iron.
anyway, I could have spent days and days sketching it, but the smithsonian air and space museum of washington dc was full of many other cool or legendary stuff - soon some more! discovery-skin

sketchcrawl with the nyc sketchers

20120814-01-600px
20120814-01
I was lucky to sketch with some of the urban sketchers in nyc during my trip there last month.
we met on the high line in chelsea, which give a great view above the streets of manhattan's west side across a floating garden.

I love the advice that danielle gave me ;)
